For years, Cadillac's V-Series Blackwings have been regarded as America's answer to Mercedes-Benz's AMG and BMW's M performance cars. Recently, it was announced that its 2022 V-series Blackwings will feature forged magnesium wheels. Judging from spy photos and videos of the 2022 v series Blackwings magnesium wheels, Cadillac is sending out a strong signal about its intention to take over the performance cars market in the coming years.

What Makes Forged Magnesium Wheels Special?

Forged magnesium wheels are lighter but more robust than the aluminum alloys used in most performance cars. Magnesium has the highest strength to weight ratio among all automotive metals. Therefore, Cadillac's decision to exclusively use forged magnesium wheels on its 2022 Blackwings lineup will reduce the sedans' overall weight. Consequently, the vehicles will have a lower momentum of inertia, faster acceleration, and a shorter braking distance.

Stronger Wheels, Wider Tires

Cadillac intends to pair its forged magnesium alloys with wider tires to improve the performance and handling attributes of the 2022 V-series Blackwings. The super sedans will feature 305/30-19 tires at the rear and 275/35-19 tires at the front. This will be a marked improvement from the 2016 to 2019 Blackwings, which rode on 295/30-19 tires at the rear and 265/35-19 at the front. The all-new Blackwings' tires will be 10 millimeters wider than those used on predecessor models.

By pairing the sleek forged magnesium wheels with wider tires, the 2022 Blackwings series will have a better contact patch with the tarmac. This ultimately translates to better traction and handling during high-performance driving. Furthermore, the stronger alloys and meatier wheels are more adept at ensuring the sedans' stay stable even when pushed to the limit.

The standard wheels on the 2022 V-series Blackwings will be black. Nevertheless, Cadillac will also offer a set of 19″ forged magnesium wheels featuring a satin bronze finish and an intricate multi-spoke design as an option. The decision to use forged magnesium wheels on the 2022 V-series Blackwings was inspired by Cadillac's championship-winning Dpi-V.R race car.

A Look at the 2022 V-Series Blackwings

If you've visited a Cadillac for sale dealership, you've probably seen older V-series models on sale. These sedans not only look stunning but also perform incredibly. The 2022 lineup promises to take things a notch higher. The sedans will be available starting in the summer of 2021.

The CT5-V and CT4-V Blackwings will be the flagship high-performance variants of the CT5 and CT4 sedans. Although the Blackwings name remains, none of the two sedans will use the 4.2-liter twin-turbo DOHC engine used in the discontinued CT6 Platinum and the CT6-V.

The 2022 CT4-V Blackwing will be powered by a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 engine currently used in the ATS-V. This will give an output of 464HP and 445 pound-feet of torque. On the other hand, the 2022 CT5-V Blackwing will feature a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine similar to what's used in the third-generation CTS-V. It's expected to output 640HP and 630 pound-feet of torque.

As an attestation to their performance cred, the 2022 V-series Blackwings will come with a 10-speed auto transmission and an optional 6-speed manual transmission. Expect to see other unique features, including a 12″ marker on the sedans' steering wheel and carbon fiber seats. The carbon fiber accents will also feature on the steering wheel.
