Cadillac Celestiq EV Featured.jpg

Cadillac announced its newly rolled-out Celestiq EV earlier this year at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). It unveiled a stand-alone all-electric vehicle anticipated to be the carmaker's flagship model for its luxury lineup. With an exterior styling inspired by the 2021 Cadillac Escala, expect the Celestiq EV to be steeped in technological features and hand-built interior trims that underline the brand's sophisticated styling.

Cadillac has withheld much of the information about the car. However, the Celestiq's unveiling at the CES offered customers and journalists a sneak peek. Below, we've explored the specs and features of the Celestiq EV.

The Price and Release Date of the Cadillac Celestiq EV

As highlighted on Car and Driver, the Cadillac Celestiq EV is expected to debut with a sticker price of around $300,000, excluding other additional packages and options. Hence, you can expect a fully outfitted and loaded Celestiq to cost higher.

To put that price tag in perspective, it compares with other models from the American brand. Cadillac's first plug-in car was the ELR, a luxury coupe that shared the same plug-in hybrid powertrain with the Chevrolet Volt. Although the sales were underwhelming, the model sold 3,000 units, each costing $75,995. On the other hand, expect the 2023 Cadillac Escalade-V to hit the market with an MSRP of $150,000. Still, Cadillac isn't shy of slapping an even higher price on its upcoming flagship model, the Celestiq EV.

General Motors (GM) hasn't released an official report about the Celestiq pricing as it plans not to put this Cadillac for sale until July 2023. The primary reason that the model costs twice the Escalade-V's price is that GM plans to release the Celestiq as a limited edition. It intends only to produce 500 units.

GM's New BEV3 Plug-in Powertrain

Like the Audi A7, the Celestiq has a long four-door hatchback to create the ultimate four-door coupe effect. Motor Trend noted that the car is built on GM's new BEV3 electric powertrain. Considering its lofty price, it is expected to feature one to three Ultium batteries hidden under the platform, which pair with powerful Ultium drive motors to give the highest EV performance and longest range. Even so, Cadillac will separately release a new SUV called Lyriq that will further propel GM's push toward complete electrification.

Cadillac Celestiq EV Has Unmatched Hand-Built Quality

GM plans to build the Celestiq EV exclusively by hand, with a production rate of 1.2 cars per day. It derives its styling cues from the Cadillac Escala, which boasts a large exterior. The Celestiq's rear seat takes advantage of the vehicle's proportions. Thus, offering shoppers ample space and comfort when chauffeured.

Other special touches include a fastback, all-glass sloping roofline, providing occupants unrestricted views from the front to the rear. Like the Rolls-Royce Phantom, the Celestiq sports an acrylic dashboard complete with flower petal embellishments that exude the model's luxurious aura.

Furthermore, it features GM's Ultra Cruise technology as a standard feature. This then enables owners to cruise hands-free on the highway or city streets. A wide-form digital infotainment system stretches across the entire dashboard for the driver and front-seat passenger. Further, there are other additional screens included for the passengers at the back.

For a $300,000 price tag, the Cadillac Celestiq EV is a bit pricey for a luxury sedan. This rivals other upcoming models, such as the Tesla Model X, Tesla Roadster, Audi e-Tron GT, Porsche Taycan, and Mercedes-Benz EQS.
