Opening a Sedan's Door.jpg

The mighty Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing seems quite a mouthful of a name, and this sedan has the oomph to match it. The CT5-V is the outright fastest and most powerful Cadillac ever made. It combines ferocious performance with usability and comfort to give you the homey drive to the supermarket feel as well as the race track machine on Main Street.

The CT5-V is an absolute brute with a V8-powered engine that gets it to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds with a top speed north of 200 mph. It's the fastest and most powerful sedan Cadillac has ever produced. It's impossible not to love it with all the mega power and advanced tech to match. This high-performance sedan is set to put the hurt on competitor models from Mercedes-AMG and Audi. Let's see what you'll be getting.

What's Under the Hood?

Providing the juice is a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine that delivers 668 HP and 659 pound-feet of torque with a six-speed manual transmission to manage that output. It is spun by a twin-disc clutch that can withstand that torque while still providing an excellent pedal feel.

The CT5-V Blackwing also comes with active rev-matching and No-Lift Shift capability for keeping the turbo spooled up for maximum acceleration.

Of course, the CT5-V Blackwing also comes with lightning-fast 10-speed automatic transmission if you'd rather not toggle with the three-pedal shuffle. The sedan's shifters allow for manual gear selection, while the automatic shift algorithm has a sport mode for reduced shift frequency for aggressive drivers.

As for performance, this Caddy hits a smooth 60 mph in less than 3.6 seconds and a top speed north of 200 mph. The sedan is rear-wheel-drive only, but like its smaller sibling, the CT5-V Blackwing's electronic limited-slip differential provides even greater control in hard cornering. It is also fitted with Caddy's latest Magnetic Ride Control, which allows you to adjust its dampers to give you a smooth ride for your everyday commuting or a stiffer feel when on track.

Braking System & Wheels

The CT5-V Blackwing has massive Brembo brakes to bring it to a safe, secure stop and withstand abusive hot laps. The rotors are clamped by six-piston calipers and measure 15.7 inches in diameter. The rear disks are smaller (14.7 inches in diameter) but still huge and are clamped by four-piston calipers.

Cadillac also provides a carbon-ceramic braking package that can withstand heat better than the standard setup while decreasing unsprung weight by 53 pounds. CT5-V Blackwing's rear-wheel-drive only can send a cool 1,475 pound-feet of torque to the tires with the most grip. So, missing out on the all-wheel drive doesn't look so bad.

Exterior Features

Many different elements set the CT5-V Blackwing apart visually. Its bodywork is designed to slice through the wind at high speeds with less resistance. Its massive front grilles also allow more air to flow under the hood, keeping the engine temperatures under control for maximum performance.

The prominent front and rear spoilers boost the Blackwing's stability while reducing lift by a claimed 75%. And if the standard aero package doesn't cut it, Cadillac offers a carbon fiber package to make your CT5-V Blackwing larger and boost performance. The underside of the sedan is also airflow optimized for the least air resistance possible while on the road.

Track Focused Interior & Tech

The CT5-V Blackwing's interior is all-too-familiar when compared to other standard CT5-V models. It comes with three different cabin trim levels that include different colors and materials. You can customize it to fit your preferences, from basic leather seats to having the front buckets trimmed with carbon fiber and imitation suede.

CT5-V Blackwing is also fitted with heated and ventilated seats that seem like a great choice for track work. The seats feel richer than the CT5-V, with pattern stitching that reminds us of the most recent entries from Mercedes and Genesis. Its headrests are slim enough to accommodate race helmets that become necessary when flooring the accelerator pedals.

As for tech, this sedan comes standard with wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and wireless phone charging. It also has a surround-view camera system and a head-up display that puts all the necessary information right onto the screen. You won't have to turn away when clipping that apex again. A 12-inch digital instrument cluster and 15-speaker AKG sound system are standard at no extra charge.

The CT5-V Blackwing has an optional performance data recorder to monitor and collect performance data for future analysis to help improve your driving skills. The performance data recorder collects real-time front camera video and audio. The camera system is currently in its second generation and comes in higher definition and redesigned timing overlays for improved dash cam functionality.

Pricing & Availability

Reviewing the CT5-V Blackwing

It's no secret that the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is both a beast and a beauty, and with an $84,990 price tag, you understand why. The pricing makes this sedan Cadillac significantly less expensive than even the BMW M5. Interestingly, the CT5-V's price can easily surpass the $100,000 tag when you start ticking and comparing the boxes.

The official unveiling was on February 1st, 2021. The first 250 reservations for the CT5-V Blackwing sold out within minutes of the unveiling. Safe to say, the sedan Cadillac is in high demand.
In other news, GM said it plans to launch 30 electric vehicles globally by the end of 2025, and Cadillac will launch 5 EVs by then. That's enough time to have some good runs with the CT5-V before it's due for replacement.
