While the Cadillac CT5 midsize sedan packs a punch, its V-Series brings performance to a whole new level. The CT5-V is the top trim for the CT5 series and comes in two different flavors; the base and the Blackwing Edition.

Both of the models appeal to those who want a luxurious-looking vehicle and those that want top-notch performance. The CT5-V has it all and then some. Here's what you can expect as far as the design, performance, and features the model brings.

Impressive Design in the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V

Inside and out, there's no denying the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V is a head-turner. With a few exterior styling touches, you not only get an impressively designed vehicle, but you will also get a functional one.

Exterior

To enhance the sedan's high-performance look, Cadillac used a mesh grille design to direct airflow to the radiators.  The brand also installed a front splitter and a rear spoiler to gain more traction on the road.

The Blackwing model offers more ways to provide heating and cooling to help the larger engine it houses under the hood. This version also has available carbon-fiber packages to add to the sporty look of the exterior.

Interior

For the interior, Cadillac implemented a racing-inspired design complete with a leather-wrapped horn pad on a thick-rimmed steering wheel paired with alloy paddle shifters. The Blackwing Edition sports carbon-fiber trimmings along with available accents sprinkled throughout the cabin area.

Another option to spruce up the interior is to upgrade to the suede look. This will give you a suede-covered steering wheel and a suede-microfiber headliner available for the Blackwing Edition.

What the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Sedan Offers Regarding Performance

Both the Base and the Blackwing models offer different specs when it comes to powertrain and performance. Here's what you can expect.

Engine and Drivetrain

Under the hood of the CT5-V Base model is a 3.0-liter Twin Turbo V6 engine that generates 360 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. Paired with it is a 10-speed automatic transmission electronically calibrated for smooth transitions between gears.

Powering up the CT5-V Blackwing Edition is a 6.2-liter Direct Injection V8 producing 668 hp and 659 lb-ft of torque. With this model, you will get a 6-speed manual transmission as standard equipment, but there's a 10-speed automatic available if you prefer. You'll only get RWD with this version, though.

As for acceleration times, if you buy the manual transmission, you can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. It's quicker with the 10-speed automatic at 3.4 seconds instead.

The standard drivetrain on the base model is rear-wheel-drive (RWD), but you can opt for an all-wheel-drive (AWD) version if you choose. With RWD, you can go from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 4.6 seconds, but with AWD, it takes .2 seconds more to accelerate to 60 mph.

Suspension and brakes

To complement the engine power, Cadillac has integrated Magnetic Ride Control to offer the quickest reaction within its leading suspension system. Alongside it is the sedan's Brembo Performance Brakes.

On the base model, these brakes send the power to the front wheels, but with the Blackwing Edition, you'll find them on all four along with an enhanced cooling system to provide maximum stopping power.

Fuel Economy

For fuel economy, the base model offers the best savings with its V6 engine. You can get 18 mpg on city roads, and 27 mpg when traveling on the highway, which means it has a combined figure of 21.

As for the Blackwing Edition, the savings will drop because of the larger engine size. With this model, you get 13 mpg in the city, and 21 mpg on the highway. This goes for both the manual and automatic transmission versions. The only difference between the two is the combined figure, which EPA reports is 15 mpg for the manual and 16 for the automatic.

Plenty of Features for the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V

Aesthetics and performance aside, the CT5-V has plenty more to boast about, especially with the features. From technology to safety equipment, you'll find a nice array of features that come standard for both the Base and the Blackwing models.

Technology

The Base model offers a 10-inch touchscreen, which comes with a wireless version of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You'll also get a hands-free phone system as well as Bluetooth connectivity. The Blackwing model has the same features but adds the navigational system along with it.

When listening to your favorite music, you'll be using either the standard Bose 15-speaker audio system on the Base version or the 16-speaker, AKG Premium stereo found on the Blackwing model.

There's also an available data and video recorder feature you can use on both versions to record your engine speed and braking force. Then later, you can play back the recording to analyze how well the vehicle performed.

Driver assistance features

With the CT5-V Series, there are plenty of standard driver assistance features to enhance your driving experience. Those include:

  • Forward Collision Alert

  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

  • Lane-keeping Assist with Lane-departure warning

  • Adaptive Cruise Control

  • Front Pedestrian Braking

Safety features

To provide safe passage for you and your passengers, both models offer eight airbags throughout the interior.  Also, both models have a passenger sensing system for the airbags.

You'll also get:

  • Onstar and Cadillac Connected Services capability

  • Safety alert seat for the driver

  • Teen Driver system

  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System
