Cadillac has caused quite a buzz in the auto industry after announcing that it plans to go all-electric by 2030. The automaker is working hard to get its Lyriq EV on the road while popularizing the upcoming Escalade IQ. All this attention could have shifted the focus away from the brand's gas-powered sedans. However, there is still some interesting news about these cars you have to watch out for.
Being 20 years since it unveiled its first V-Series vehicle, the 2004 CTS-V, the company adds special touches to its Blackwing models. The 2024 CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing will spot a few commemorative tweaks and newly available colors.
The 2024 CT4-V Blackwing: What to Expect
With a few notable changes, the upcoming CT4-V Blackwing will largely emulate the current model. These include a 20th Anniversary graphic on the grille and rocker panels. The digital gauge cluster will also feature a special startup animation. To better distinguish it from its less powerful variant, the CT4-V, it will have a small "Blackwing" badge under the V logo.
The 2023 CT4-V Blackwing is also expected to add a few color options. These include Black Diamond Tricoat, Coastal Blue Metallic, Cyber Yellow Metallic, and Velocity Red.
As for performance, the car will remain unchanged. It will still feature the robust 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6, which delivers 472 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is also standard, with a 10-speed automatic being optional.
Still, there is no option for an all-wheel-drive in the upcoming Blackwing, and Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 suspension will remain standard.
The 2024 CT5-V Blackwing at a Glance
The 2024 CT5-V Blackwing, which is a bit larger than its CT4-V counterpart, will also feature a few improvements and tweaks over its current model. Its biggest update is perhaps the addition of GM's Super Cruise driver assistance feature on the vehicles that will have a 10-speed automatic gearbox. This feature allows for on-demand automatic lane changes and hands-free driving on certain road stretches within the US.
Like the CT4-V Blackwing, the CT5-V Blackwing also features some tweaks to celebrate Cadillac's 20th year of manufacturing V-series vehicles. This includes special commemorative grille details and rocker panels. The driver information display will feature a unique "wake-up" animation, and the car's V badge will be punctuated by Blackwing text.
The new colors available for the CT5-V Blackwing are Coastal Blue Metallic, Velocity Red, Black Diamond Tricoat, and Cyber Yellow Metallic.
As for the powertrain, the car will still pack the highly powerful 6.2-liter supercharged V8 and a standard Tremec six-speed manual gearbox. However, an optional performance-enhanced 10-speed GM Hydra-Matic automatic will be available.
The V8 can produce 668 horsepower and 659 lb-ft of torque, making the car attain 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds! Undoubtedly, it will continue to be the most powerful sedan Cadillac has ever manufactured.
2024 CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing Prices
Compared to the previous versions, the prices of the two Blackwings have increased slightly. The CT4-V Blackwing will start at $62,890, while the CT5-V Blackwing's price will start at $94,690, independent of destination charges.
For those looking to install Cadillac's Super Cruise hands-free driving tech, they will have to incur $6785 more on their CT5-V Blackwing. This extra cost also caters to the installation of two driver-assist packages and the optional ten-speed automatic transmission.
