Cadillac is already ramping up the production of its Lyriq electric midsize SUV and is preparing to roll out the 2024 Cadillac Celestiq super-luxury sedan later this year. The brand's focus now shifts to its other EVs, including several new crossovers, such as the 2024 Cadillac Optiq.
This fresh electric crossover is part of the automaker's plans to transition to a high-tech, all-electric lineup. The car is slated for an official debut later this year, but you don't have to wait that long to know more about its features and specs. Its images recently leaked online, and we can finally put a face to the name. Below is a detailed preview of this upcoming all-electric crossover.
Exterior
The forthcoming Optiq will be part of Cadillac's battery electric vehicle (BEV) squad. It will be in the same lineup with the Escalade IQ, Celestique, Lyriq, and a currently unnamed three-row crossover that will rank above the Lyriq.
According to the images released recently, the Optiq will borrow a lot from the Lyriq with regard to the exterior elements. Its grille, for instance, will have a polygonal LED design. The car's other forward-facing lighting elements also appear to borrow from the Lyriq, as well as the upcoming revamped 2024 Cadillac XT4.
The 2024 Cadillac Optiq's roofline also has a gradual slope, silky door handles, and a "kink" or "notch" aft of the C-pillar on its sides. Meanwhile, at the back, the car has two spoilers–one below the rear glass and one atop the roof, as well as two tail lights on each side.
One more point to note is that the Cadillac Optiq was initially expected to have a small size, resembling the XT4. However, according to current reports, the vehicle will be bigger than the XT4 and the XT5. Since it will compete between two segments, the model can be called a "tweener."
Platform
Cadillac will fit this upcoming Cadillac Optiq with a version of its luxury marque's BEV3 platform. Currently, it outperforms the three-row EV that will rank higher than the Lyriq, the Celestiq, and the Lyriq itself.
Powertrain
GM Ultium Drive motors and GM Ultium will ensure the new Optiq performs excellently. About propulsion, the car's rear axle will have an exclusive Ultium Drive motor. Two power output options will be available for the car, the larger one being 180 kW (241 horsepower) and the smaller one 150 kW (201 horsepower). A dual-motor all-wheel-drive drivetrain is also expected to be available but on an optional basis.
We expect the 2024 Cadillac Optiq to perform well since the Ultium Technology it utilizes has several energy options (from 50-200 kWh). With a range that extends to 400 miles per charge, the car can attain 0-60 mph in just 3 seconds. The technology is also flexible enough to swiftly ramp up production to meet the changing market demands.
Availability
Within the latter half of the year, Cadillac will have conducted a world debut of the electric Optiq crossover. The car's initial market will include the US, China, the Middle East, and Canada. Its production in North America will likely be at Mexico's Ramos Arizpe factory. The rest of the production will likely be conducted in China as part of Cadillac's joint venture in the region. If you are looking to purchase an Optiq in North America, you may mostly encounter it on the market during the first half of the 2024 calendar.
